Do You See What I See?

Branded Email

For those of us with eyesight we live in a visual world.  Our sense of sight is probably the biggest reason we have for much of what we do yet many of us take it for granted.

When you return from your vacation the first thing people normally ask is, “What did you see?” Can you imagine taking a trip and not going to see the local sights or meeting people? Why take the trip in the first place?

Sight is a vital part of our being in work and play. Sight even makes hearing take a back seat when we go to a concert. If sight wasn’t a priority to hearing we could have just bought the latest CD and listened to the same tunes.

Before the invention of the television people listened to the radio as a form of family entertainment. As they listened they would envision in their mind’s eye the drama being played out over the airwaves.

We think in pictures too. When the word “horse” is read or spoken you think of a picture of a horse.  As for myself I “see” a brown mare. What color was your steed?

Many people have a problem remembering other people’s names. However they don’t have a problem recalling peoples’ faces.  That’s because we think in pictures.

The Wax Museum

Years ago I was at a friend’s house for a Super Bowl party. I met a man there whose family owned two wax museums, one in San Francisco and the other in Buena Park. I’ve been to wax museums and could never understand why people were so drawn to them so I asked him why that was.

His response made a lot of sense when he explained that many of the foreign tourists that come to the Los Angeles area have a preconceived idea of what to expect based on the American movies they have seen.  They also expect to see movie stars and when they don’t they look for other avenues to satisfy that expectation. Thus the wax museum is a popular destination.

Emails

Rather than dull, boring, black on white emails, imagine email with a visual explosion of color and imagery.  An email that would display your logo and company colors, your image and your contact info. An email that info would include links to your social media sites and your company web site. That would be a powerful business tool.

That’s exactly what Ace of Sales offers.  I tell people that Ace of Sales is the best $20 per month investment in my business because it is.  With Ace of Sales my emails “work” for me, they connect me to the people I want to reach.  Ace of Sales emails “draw” a picture of what I want to convey.

Building Blocks #3

“5 Phone Calls a day”
by John Prusa

Ever notice how when you haven’t talked with someone in a while you wonder what they are up to? So the natural thing to do would be to contact them in some way. Maybe a phone call, an email or a letter (who sends those anymore?).

Well before you get to the point where they’re missing you or you’re missing them try this. Select five customers or clients and give them a phone call. Your only agenda item is to be friendly. You are not to sell them anything. When they ask what you want just tell them you wanted to say hello and to see how they are. Set aside 30 minutes in each day to do this. It probably won’t take that long to accomplish this task but you may need the extra time for one or two of them.

As you perfect this process you will be “dropping sunshine” into the lives of the people you care about most, your customers. You’ll also be connecting with them on a more intimate level. You’ll be building relationships to last.

I would suggest setting aside one day a week to make those 5 calls. That’s 260 people a year and believe me when I say you know that many people….just look in your cell phone.

Creative Ways to Follow Up When Networking

writing-hand

Last week I mentioned that you should follow up in the next 24-48 hours.  There are several ways to accomplish that task:

  • Email
  • Phone call
  • Hand Written Note (use blue ink)

Email

This seems to be the easiest way to reconnect with someone you’ve met.  Just last week I got an email with the usual form letter that said we had met at a luncheon.  Oh she was there O.K. but we were never introduced.  It may be an easy way to follow up but it has a low value in building a true relationship, one in which your prospect will buy from you.

Phone Call

This is better than an email when it comes to value in building a true relationship.  If you’re going to make phone call follow ups be prepared and DON’T try to sell a product over the phone.  If they ask about your product make an appointment to come see them or invite them to coffee or go to their office.

Hand Written Note (use blue ink)

I got a reply email last week asking why blue ink? I knew someone would ask me that.  Black is a business color, you’ve heard the expression “it’s either black or white”. Right or wrong.  Do those words send a message of sincerity or do you get the warm fuzzies?

Blue is a warm, calming color, it’s peaceful, it invokes a closeness, a sincerity and things you want in a trusting relationship.  When you’re trying to build a relationship a close personal relationship, use blue, it sends a message of friendship, trust, sincerity, etc.
